A tragic landslide struck the Vaishno Devi Yatra route in Reasi district, Jammu & Kashmir, on Tuesday, leaving at least 31 pilgrims dead and several others feared trapped under the debris. Rescue operations are underway as authorities rush to clear the path and save those still stuck.
Rescue Efforts in Full Swing
Teams from the NDRF, SDRF, and local police have been deployed to the site. Heavy machinery is being used to remove boulders and mud, while medical teams are providing emergency aid to the injured. Officials fear the death toll could rise as more bodies may be recovered.
Pilgrimage Temporarily Halted
The yatra has been suspended for safety reasons, with devotees advised to avoid the affected stretch until the route is declared secure. Authorities are working round the clock to restore connectivity and ensure safe passage for pilgrims.
Govt Response
The J&K administration has announced ex-gratia relief for families of the deceased and assured that every effort will be made to rescue those still missing. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy and extended condolences to the victims’ families.
